Research Saves Lives

Although more than 200,000 women are newly diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. each year, the female breast cancer death rate has declined by 38 percent from its peak in 1989 due to improvements in early detection and treatment, according to the American Cancer Society. The O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Alabama at Birmingham is at the forefront for training future generations of health professionals and treating breast cancer patients across Alabama - and the southeast.

Since 1996, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama has invested $8.7 million in cutting-edge breast cancer research in Alabama. We have launched a campaign to raise $500,000 to fund a BCRFA Endowed Professorship at UAB. By investing in an endowed professorship, the BCRFA will provide a perpetual revenue stream to support breast cancer research.

Through the establishment of this endowment, the BCRFA will support UAB in their efforts to:

• Recruit the best talent and faculty in the area of breast health and cancer treatment come to Alabama
• Advance breast cancer patient outcomes
• Impart knowledge to future generations of medical professionals, scientists, and researchers
• Facilitate research which could translate to new therapies for other types of cancer
